 How to Use the Store
Below is a list of each of the sections and a short description of what you can do in each section.

Storefront
This is the entrance to the ACS Online Store. It contains links to all the other sections, and features a product that we think you might be interested in.

Login
To place an order from the ACS Online Store you need to create an account. In the Login section you can create a new account if you don't already have one, and if you do you can login so that the store can associate your purchases with your account.

Browse
Here you can browse through the different sections of the catalog to find the product that's right for you.

Search
If you can't find what you want by browsing, you can search the store catalog by keyword and/or product category.

Cart
Your shopping cart shows you a list of all the products that you've collected, and is where you go when you're ready to submit an order. You can also change your shipping and billing addresses on this page.

The ACS Online Store is operated by the American Chemical Society on its chemistry.org Web site.

Payment methods
The ACS Online Store currently accepts payment for orders using Visa, MasterCard, or American Express. You may also submit your payment information on-line or by phone, fax, or mail. All transfer of your personal information, including credit card handling, is done through a secure server using the Secure Sockets Layer (SSL) protocol.

Sales Tax
ACS collects sales tax from purchasers who reside in California, Maryland, Ohio, Illinois, Washington D.C., and Canada.

 Shipping
Shipping charges are based on the total dollar amount of the order. Products delivered in the United States are shipped via UPS Ground Service and cannot be shipped to P.O. Boxes. Please use a valid street address. Products delivered to Canada are sent by Cantrak; please allow 2-4 weeks for delivery. Products to delivered to all other locations will be sent via Airmail; please allow 2-6 weeks for delivery. All products are available with rush shipping, for an additional cost of $25 (for U.S. Addresses Only). Rushed orders, received before 12 noon EST Monday through Friday (except holidays), will be delivered within three (3) business days.

The ACS Online store allows you to pay for purchases online by using your MasterCard, Visa, and American Express credit cards. Because some customers have concerns about providing their credit card numbers over the Internet, we have provided some answers to common questions.

Is it safe to provide my credit card account numbers over the Internet?

All transfer of your payment information, including credit card handling, is done through a secure server using the Secure Sockets Layer (SSL) protocol. This allows your Web browser to encode any data it sends to our server, so that even if your information were intercepted by someone as it traveled across the Internet they wouldn't be able to read it. For more technical information on why SSL is a safe way to send sensitive information, please read Netscape's How SSL Works.

In the unlikely event that unauthorized use of your credit card occurs, follow the reporting procedures that your credit card provider has set up and contact us immediately by phone (800-227-5558, or 202-872-4600), fax (202-872-6067), or e-mail. Most credit card companies cover all charges that result from unauthorized use of your credit card, or they may limit your liability.

If your credit card company holds you liable for unauthorized charges made as a result of your credit card purchase from the ACS Online Store while you are using our secure server, we will reimburse you for the remaining liability, up to the maximum of $50.00 US.

I understand your explanation but I'd still prefer not to provide my card number over the Web. Does this mean I can't order from the ACS Online Store?

Absolutely not! You may place your order on-line and choose to provide your credit card information by phone, fax, or mail. Just choose this option when you place your order. Then, to complete the purchase, contact us by phone Monday through Friday (except holidays) during business hours (8:30am to 5:00pm Eastern Time), or by fax or mail, with your credit card information.
